CAST IRON BURNER TIPS
AN RETENTION
BURNER NOZZLES
The AN tips are
open type nozzles made of cast iron except the steel 15mm tip. These tips have excellent
flame retention and high capacities at low gas pressures due to the large port area. All
tips have correctly designed piloting retention holes arranged around the main port.
Although AN burners are usually employed on low mixture pressures they have the ability to
handle high drafts for greater capacities. They are generally used with the SPI
inspirators for accurate control and are suitable for most commercially available gasses.
If greater capacities with higher mixture pressures are required, the FR tips would be
more appropriate. As they are open nozzles, adequate secondary air must be available
around the tip to complete combustion.

Always allow forward flame travel 1 1/2 times flame length.
CAPACITY
Note: The capacity will vary greatly depending on many factors such as the gas type, gas pressure, air/gas mixture or the amount of draw available. The typical atmospheric furnace would have a minimal draw of approx. .01"wc.

The
FR burner tips are premix tips specifically designed to operate on high mixture pressures
and would be specified if high gas pressures or air/gas systems are used. They are
manufactured from cast iron with the exception of the 15mm and the 20mm tips that are made
from steel.
The FR tips have excellent flame retention due to the retention port placement and main
port design. They would be matched with the corresponding LPI inspirator or the
appropriate SPI inspirator for higher pressure gasses only or with the AP mixing sets for
forced air systems. Several tips can be used with a single inspirator or mixer providing
basic manifold sizing principles are followed. Careful attention should be given to the
venturi throat/burner port area ratio if using an inspirator or the sizing if using
aspirators for correct burner operation. Please contact ACS for more information. These
burners are open type tips and require secondary air for complete combustion.

All capacities are given in MJ/HOUR. A typical premix burner operating on an air/gas mixing set would develop approx. .75-1 kPa of mixture pressure.
The PN packaged burner nozzles are modified FR burner tips that incorporate several features. The burners are equipped with a spark igniter, pilot gas connection, pilot gas tube and pilot gas valve. A flame sensing electrode can be added to the PN burner if required, please add PNFR to your order. The capacities and dimensions are the same as the equivalent FR tip.

INSTALLATION OF BURNER NOZZLES
The diagram shows the appropriate mounting position for the FR and AN
burner tips. Both burners require secondary air to complete combustion and the distance
will vary from approx. 6-25mm depending on the draw available.
The opening in the furnace wall should always be slightly larger than the burner tip, this will vary from approx. 6mm to 15mm larger than the burner diameter. The opening for the AN burners will usually be larger than the FR burners due to the extra secondary air required.
